Notary In Your Space | Blake Raspberry

When you enter Blake’s cottage you immediately know who lives there. Her home is a gallery of who she is: A curator of  cozy charm. There’s intention and significance behind the art and cherished pieces adorning the walls and shelves; most everything she pointed out to me had an origin story that connects her to her family, her history, her spirituality. In a world of quickly passing trends, we can all learn a lesson or two from her celebration of this 1920s cottage.

Welcome to our series latest Journal series where we will be inviting you into the homes of our beloved team members and closest friends. Get an intimate glimpse of our people in their places.

I’m Blake! I love being a little part of Notary. I grew up in gift shops and love the warmth and community and appreciation for beautiful objects. Growing up my mom instilled in me the importance of art and making your home feel like a representation of you and your style. She also taught me to appreciate vintage and antique pieces to add character to any space.

I feel so lucky to own my home on my own in this crazy world we live in. It was built in 1926 and even though it’s been updated a lot over the last 99 years, I’m glad it retains its original charm. It makes it fun to find furniture and decor that compliments it! I also love how small it is. I get to do fun projects that aren’t daunting or that expensive because the space is so small. Tiling my kitchen is on the docket…

I love to go to antique and vintage stores to find furniture and decor. I also definitely “shop” from my mom’s house too! Growing up in a log cabin made me really like the warmth of wooden pieces in my space and then I soften them with rugs and soft furniture.

I think I’d describe my style as vintage eclectic. I am not a minimalist and I’m not modern - never will be. I definitely have been deeply influenced by my mom and my grandma. In this space, I don’t want to fight the fact that I live in a cottage, so I try to lean into it without being total grandma vibes. A little cluttered and very cozy, but not messy.

I love the clean lines and neutral colors of Sarah’s notary pieces to add character but not overwhelm the space. I am leaning into white walls lately too, to let my stuff be the focus with a neutral backdrop. Sometimes I think all my art and trinkets is a bit too much, but I love it so much and it makes me so happy to look at it all the time, and that it’s worth it to me more than having a perfectly perfect aesthetic space.

I have to shout out Pinterest for inspiration. My Interiors board is filled with cluttered Japanese kitchens and Berlin interiors and upstate New York cottages. I see the way things work in spaces similar to mine and try to emulate that in my own way with my own flare with the unique pieces I find.
